First, check whether you have your old number

A mobile update is no longer always a centre-only task. UIDAI lists mobile-number update among the services in its new Aadhaar app. The app and the myAadhaar website are different services, so a missing option on the website does not settle what the app supports. UIDAI service information

The practical question is whether you still control the mobile number already registered with Aadhaar.

Which route applies?

  • App registered with your existing Aadhaar mobile: verify the new number by OTP, complete face authentication and pay the prescribed charge.
  • App registered with a different mobile: the documented process verifies both the old Aadhaar mobile and the new number, followed by face authentication and payment.
  • Old number lost, inaccessible, or never registered: visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorised enrolment/update centre.

These are the scenarios described in UIDAI’s mobile-update FAQ. If that older FAQ link moves, use the current UIDAI help section and follow the instructions displayed inside the official app.

Before starting

Install the app using the store links on UIDAI’s website. Avoid an app chosen only because its name or icon looks familiar. Keep the new SIM available, charge your phone, and allow enough time to read each verification screen.

Enter your new number twice in your own notes before you submit it. A reversed pair of digits is easy to miss. Keep your face unobstructed and follow the app’s on-screen capture instructions.

If you need a centre

Use the official centre locator, choose a location offering mobile updates, and save the acknowledgement after your visit. Check the number entered by the operator before final submission.

After approval, try an official service that sends an Aadhaar OTP to confirm that the new number works. Changing it with Aadhaar should also prompt you to review your contact details separately with your bank and other services.
