Choose proof for the detail you are changing

A document can be useful for one purpose without being accepted for another. UIDAI’s supporting-document list separates proof of identity, address, date of birth and relationship. The relevant row and column matter more than whether a document “looks official.” Current UIDAI document list

Before applying, write the field you need to change at the top of a checklist. Then identify the evidence that supports that specific change.

Understand the four common labels

  • PoI — Proof of Identity: evidence supporting who you are.
  • PoA — Proof of Address: evidence supporting your address.
  • PDB — Proof of Date of Birth: evidence for the recorded birth date.
  • PoR — Proof of Relationship: evidence used where a family relationship must be established.

Do not treat this short explanation as a substitute for the full list. Check the notes for your age, resident category, document validity and the type of application.

Prepare the document

Read your name and the relevant details exactly as printed. If different documents use different spellings, initials or addresses, settle which record needs correction before submitting a contradictory set.

For an upload, use a clear image of the original. Include the complete relevant page. Avoid glare, shadows, a cut-off issuing authority or a missing second page. Check any expiry or issue-date condition in the official list.

For a centre visit, take the original supporting documents. UIDAI says originals are scanned and returned; remember to collect them before leaving. Centre-update guidance

Do not confuse two tasks

Refreshing the supporting documents associated with your Aadhaar and changing a printed name or address are different goals. Read the service description before choosing a tile on the portal. If your address is wrong, choose the appropriate address-correction route rather than assuming a document upload alone fixes it.

If your proof is in a family member’s name, check the family-based process with UIDAI. Do not edit a scan to make names match. Keep a private copy of what you submitted and the acknowledgement so you can understand any follow-up.
