Download from the official service

Start at myAadhaar and choose Download Aadhaar. Follow the identity-detail and verification steps shown there, then save the PDF to a device you control. UIDAI also offers e-Aadhaar through its Aadhaar app.

e-Aadhaar is digitally signed by UIDAI and has the same validity as the physical copy. You do not need to order a PVC card simply to make your downloaded document valid. UIDAI e-Aadhaar information

Open the password-protected PDF

The usual password combines the first four letters of your name in CAPITALS with your four-digit birth year. For example, the fictional name NEHA SHARMA, born in 1994, gives NEHA1994.

Use the name recorded on Aadhaar, rather than a nickname. For short names or names containing initials and punctuation, consult the examples in UIDAI’s e-Aadhaar FAQ. Do not assume that every password must contain exactly eight characters. Never upload the document to a random “PDF unlock” website just because the first attempt failed.

A calm troubleshooting checklist

  • No OTP: check that the registered SIM has signal and can receive messages. Wait before requesting another code.
  • PDF will not open: verify the birth year and capital letters, then try a current PDF reader on your own device.
  • Download missing: check the browser’s downloads list and your device’s Downloads folder.
  • Details look old: check that your update has actually been approved before downloading again.
  • Using a shared computer: sign out and remove the downloaded copy when finished.

Choose the right copy to share

If the recipient does not need your complete Aadhaar number, ask whether a masked copy will work. Keep the original downloaded file in private storage, and check the attachment carefully before sending it.
