What the lock does

Biometric locking prevents Aadhaar authentication using your fingerprints, iris and face while the lock is active. OTP authentication is a separate mode. This can be useful when you do not currently need biometric verification. UIDAI authentication guidance

Before enabling it, think about your next planned use: a fingerprint-based service or face authentication may need you to unlock first. Make the change when you have time to read the confirmation and understand how to reverse it.

Use the official controls

  1. Open myAadhaar or the official Aadhaar app.
  2. Find the biometric lock/unlock service.
  3. Complete the verification requested by UIDAI.
  4. Read the confirmation carefully and note whether biometrics are locked or temporarily unlocked.
  5. Return to the same service when you need biometric authentication.

Keep access to your registered mobile number. Do not ask an unknown agent to manage the lock for you or give them remote control of your phone.

Unlocking is temporary; disabling is different

UIDAI provides temporary unlocking for a required authentication and an option to disable the locking system. Read the actual option before confirming. Do not assume a temporary unlock remains available indefinitely. Biometric-locking rules

If you are helping a family member, explain the effect and let them complete verification on their own device. A lock that someone does not understand can cause confusion at their next service visit.

Keep two different locks distinct

Biometric locking and Aadhaar-number locking are separate features. Check the heading on the screen; do not select a broader lock simply because the words look similar.

Locking is a useful control, not a promise that every kind of identity misuse becomes impossible. Continue protecting OTPs, document copies and your phone.

If an unexpected authentication message arrives, open the official service independently to review the information. Record the date and the concern privately, and contact UIDAI using the support details on its website. If a legitimate verification fails, first check whether you enabled a biometric lock before repeatedly trying the scan.
